The New York Water Environment Association, Inc. (NYWEA) was founded in 1929 by professionals in the field of water quality as a non-profit, educational organization.The NYWEA consists of seven chapters representing the various geographic regions of New York State: the Capital, Central, Genesee, Long Island, Lower Hudson, Metropolitan, and Western. The Capital Chapter covers Columbia, Greene, Scoharie, Albany, Rensselaer, Franklin, Essex, St. Lawrence, Hamilton, Warren, Washington, Saratoga, Montgomery, Schenectady, Fulton and Clinton Counties. The Capital Chapter membership consists of approximately 380 water quality professionals.
The Capital Chapter of NYWEA meets approximatly five times per year. The meetings focus around a technical session that is used to provide training and information in the water quality field. Wastewater treatment plant operators receive "renewal training contact hours" which can be used to renew thier NYS Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators Certificate. The September meeting hosts the annual Capital Chapter Clam Bake at Saratoga State Park.
